I must be stupid

I am convinced that sooner rather than later I will have to accept that I really am a stupid, backward fool incapable of understanding these here modern times and modern thinking. I am led to this conviction after having read an article in the Guyana Chronicle.

The article reports that President Bharrat Jagdeo visited the Mahaica Mahaicony Abary region yesterday. It further reports that President Jagdeo encouraged farmers in the area to diversify.

Given that the area is prone to flooding, President Jagdeo urged the farmers to find three alternative means of providing income which would not be affected by flooding. This is where things begin to get immensely confusing. Perhaps you, dear reader, can assist me in unraveling what, to me, is a mystery.

You see President Jagdeo, the article informs us, urged the farmers to get into aquaculture so that in the event of flooding they would still have a means of income. Forgive me for thinking that when the place is flooded that the fish ponds (which President Jagdeo said the government is willing to assist with digging) would become flooded and the fish would swim away. This is exactly what happened when this and other areas were flooded late last year. I actually saw some aquaculture farmers on television complaining of having lost all their fish.

So, unless you, dear reader, can quickly enlighten me, I shall have to conclude that I am that stupid, backward fool.
